Micdizle’s EPL Prediction for Matchday 2

EPL GAME WEEK 2 PREDICTION

Saturday 18th August, 2018.

Cardiff vs Newcastle United 12:30pm
Cardiff are finding it very difficult to create chances and are relying on long balls forward, this tactic worked well in the Championship but it’s harder to pull off especially at away games in the Premier League. Fortunately they’re at home this weekend and will set up as a team very difficult to beat. Newcastle will feel very unlucky not to come away with at least a point at home against Spurs last weekend and I see this as another difficult task for them but I expect them to get a point here. 1-1

Everton vs Southampton 3pm
Another team finding it difficult with creating goal scoring chances is Southampton, and this was evident against a sturdy and resolute Burnley last week. €50m new man Richarlison was the star of the key man for Everton at the Molineux and Marco Silva’s team will be without their deadline day signings Yerry Mina and Andre Gomes. I expect Everton to come out on top here. 2-0 to Everton.

Leicester City vs Wolverhampton Wanderers 3pm
Wolves showed great character coming back from a goal down twice against Everton at home last weekend to earn a point. Ruben Neves will certainly be a key player for them this season. Leicester city were unlucky not to earn a point against Manchester united in the opening match of the Premier League. They dominated in large spells of that game and will look to get their season to the right start at home here. 3-1 to Leicester.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Fulham 3pm
Tottenham won away at Newcastle last weekend despite not playing at their best and Harry Kane continues his August dry spell, He will be keen to get on the score sheet at Wembley. Fulham was out of the box firing on all cylinders but failed to bury any of their chances in the early stages of the encounter against Crystal Palace and their profligacy came back to hurt them. 3-0 to Tottenham.

West Ham United vs AFC Bournemouth 3pm
West Ham gave a disappointing performance against Liverpool at Anfield last weekend. They kept playing into Liverpool’s hands by playing out of the back with new man Felipe Anderson as the outlet. They couldn’t even muster to trouble Liverpool’s defense. Bournemouth’s Calum Wilson and Ryan Fraser were the difference at the Vitality Stadium against Cardiff which they both got the goals in the match but i expect this clash to be more difficult for them. 2-1 to West Ham.

Chelsea vs Arsenal 5:30pm
The battle of the new bosses. This is gearing up to be a huge clash between the London rivals. It was always looking a difficult start for Arsenal new boss Unai Emery especially facing the defending champions in Manchester City your first home match of the season. There was some positives to take away from the game though and I was impressed with Guendouzi’s performance despite the lack of experience and lapse in concentration at times he was always an option and didn’t shy away from driving forward with the ball. Chelsea eased to a serene start to the season under new manager Sarri. New signing Jorginho was pivotal at the base of Chelsea’s midfield and he’s important to the way they play. Morata continues his uninspiring form in front of goal and it won’t be long before we see Hazard as the focal point of the attack just like Sarri’s time at Napoli with Dries Mertens leading the attack. 3-1 to Chelsea.

Sunday 19th August, 2018

Burnley vs Watford  1:30pm
Exactly what I expected from Burnley last weekend by settling for a draw at St Mary and they’ve 4 matches in the Europa League qualifiers already this season. Watford were impressive to defeat Brighton in their opening match. I think this could go on to be a Burnley win but they did play 120 minutes in their Europa League qualifier on Thursday and will be happy with a point here. 1-1

Manchester City vs Huddersfield 1:30pm
What a difficult start to the season for Huddersfield, defeat at home to Chelsea followed by a trip to The Etihad to face Manchester City. Meanwhile, Manchester City will be rocked by the news of Kevin De Bruyne’s knee injury lay off which could see him miss 3-4 months of action but they have adequate cover with David Silva, Bernardo Silva, Gundogan and Delph. Manchester city got their title defense off to a flyer and really could be out of sight even in the first half if not for complacency and profligacy in front of goal. 5-0 to Manchester City.

Brighton vs Manchester United 4pm
Brighton were second best in their loss to Watford and Manager Chris Houghton has called for patient to gel in his new players. Manchester United came out of the blocks firing and they got the early goal and eventually took their foot off the gas but got the win at the end despite the pressure from Leicester City. There’s news of a rift between manager Jose Mourinho and his new captain Paul Pogba but the Club and Manager has moved to quash those rumours. 1-1.

Monday 20th August, 2018.

Crystal Palace vs Liverpool 8pm
Lots of positive from Crystal Palace away win at Fulham. And tying down key player Wilfred Zaha and manager Roy Hodgson on new deals is a great news for their fans. Liverpool got off to a great start to the season against West Ham and they’ve looked to address the weak areas in their team, with Allison’s calmness between the stick and Naby Keita’s surging run from deep as a box to box midfielder linking the midfield to the trio attackers. Crystal Palace has always been a difficult fixture for Liverpool lately but I expect them to come out on top here. 1-2 to Liverpool.
