Liverpool fans attacked last night

A group of Liverpool fans were attacked in Naples last night, in what is described as an “unmotivated” attack.

A group of Liverpool fans were set upon while walking in Via Ceare Rossarol, and one was taken to hospital.

Il Mattino has reported that groups of young, hardline Napoli fans have been traversing the city in pairs and on scooters looking to fight ‘hooligans’.

There is no suggestion that the fans attacked last night were involved in any wrongdoing.

“The incident last night was completely unprompted and unmotivated,” chief of police Antonio De Iesu.

“These events don’t reflect well on the city, we’ve made appeals to the fans but obviously they don’t get through to the younger groups.

“These are actions which have nothing to do with football. The men of DIGOS [special operations] have been carefully observing the city, and in fact have identified 28 men of various fan groups.”

Manchester City fans faced similar problems when they played Napoli last year, with a Neapolitan waiter stepping in to protect visiting fans and sustaining a broken nose.
